Assos is only some 50 miuntes away from the archaeological site, Alexandria Troas. The ancient city, which dates back over 2,400 years, is a treasure trove of history and culture. Recent restoration efforts are uncovering the secrets of this ancient port city, including the remarkable 1,850-year-old polygonal building that was originally constructed during the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian in the second century A.D. This building is being carefully restored by a team of archaeologists from Ankara University, led by Professor Erhan Öztepe, with the help of modern technologies like augmented reality, which allows visitors to explore its digital reconstruction.

The city’s ancient theater is also being recently uncovered. Dating back to the city's Greek foundation, it was renovated during Hadrian’s reign and could seat between 10,000 and 12,000 spectators. The theater, overlooking the beautiful North Aegean Sea, is one of the largest in the region. The excavation team is also unearthing inscriptions that provide a glimpse into the cultural life of the city, including references to the Dionysian Artists, a resident theater troupe that once performed here.

An inscription found in the Odeon mentions a musician from Lesbos who triumphed in a competition held there is now exhibited in the museum of Troy in Çanakkale. These discoveries are offering new insights into Alexandria Troas’s role as a hub for art, culture, and religious life in antiquity.
